Bandra Terminus, one of the most important terminals in Mumbai from a travel perspective under the Western Railway division, is set to receive a major infrastructure upgrade. Construction work that has been underway for the past few days has now reached its final stage, and three new lines at Bandra Terminus will soon be commissioned ,bringing cheer to railway passengers .

Three New Lines at Bandra Terminus to Be Operational Soon
At Bandra Terminus, three new maintenance lines are being made available. This development will significantly enhance the maintenance capacity of long-distance trains operated by Western Railway. As a result, railway passengers are expected to benefit on a large scale. So far, an expenditure of around ₹53 crore has been incurred on this project.
Out of these, the first line was commissioned in July 2025 ,while the remaining two lines were expected to become operational by the end of December. The work on these lines has now been completed, and hence all three new lines at this Terminus are ready to be opened for service .
Modern Maintenance Infrastructure at Bandra Terminus
The new maintenance lines at Bandra Terminus are approximately 540 meters long , making them suitable for trains with long rakes. These lines will be used for the maintenance of both LHB (Linke Hofman Busch) and ICF coaches. This information was shared by Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek.
In addition, work is also underway to extend the length of platforms on the existing lines. Not only at Bandra Terminus , but construction work on new terminals at Vasai Road and Jogeshwari is also progressing rapidly and is nearing completion .Capacity Expansion Across Mumbai’s Railway Terminals
To enhance the overall capacity of railway terminals, several new lines are currently being constructed. Along with Mumbai Central, This Terminus is also undergoing expansion with the addition of new lines. Platform extension work on existing tracks is also in progress.
The new terminals at Jogeshwari and Vasai Road are in their final stages of development. With the addition of these new facilities at Bandra Terminus , the number of maintenance lines will increase, thereby boosting overall operational efficiency.At the coaching depot of this Terminus, maintenance of nearly 800 coaches is carried out. LHB coaches undergo maintenance every 36 months , while ICF coaches are maintained every 18 months .
This Terminus is one of the most significant railway terminals in Mumbai city. Every day, thousands of trains originate from this terminal, including several major Express and Superfast trains.
With the addition of these three new maintenance lines, there will be a definite improvement in operational efficiency. The number of trains originating from Bandra Terminus is expected to increase, providing passengers with more travel options. This terminal plays a crucial role in connecting Mumbai with Gujarat, Rajasthan, and northern regions of India.
