BMC Takes Action Against 65 Illegal Construction in Mumbai with the help of multiple civic departments under guidance of deputy Municipal commissioner and various officers.
In a major enforcement drive, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has carried out a large-scale demolition operation against 65 unauthorized structures and illegal hawkers in Kandivali, highlighting the growing concerns around illegal construction in Mumbai. The action was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Sandhya Nandedkar and executed under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Aarti Golekar of the R-South Ward.
Major Crackdown on Unauthorized Construction in Mumbai
The operation primarily targeted illegal structures and unauthorized street vendors in Mahavir Nagar, Kandivali West. Over the past few months, the BMC had received several complaints from residents regarding increasing encroachments, congestion, and unsafe conditions caused by unauthorized construction in Mumbai. These illegal structures had narrowed roads, obstructed pedestrian pathways, and increased traffic bottlenecks, making daily commuting difficult for residents.
To address these concerns, the R-South Ward administration launched a coordinated operation involving three JCB machines, seven dumpers, and several support vehicles. A total of 47 civic officials and staff members, along with a strong police contingent, were deployed to ensure smooth execution and maintain law and order. The drive aimed not only to remove illegal structures but also to clear roadside hawkers who were occupying public spaces and contributing to congestion caused by unchecked construction in Mumbai.
Officials stated that illegal encroachments had significantly affected pedestrian safety, emergency vehicle movement, and overall urban mobility.
