The contractor working on the Carnac Bridge was also penalized at some point. The contractor was fined 1 crore 80 lakhs.The main reason for this was the non-delivery of the girders on time. The work of the girders was expected to be completed by April 30, but the girders were delayed, resulting in a fine of Rs 10 lakh each being imposed on the contractor on May 1 and 2.Even after that, there was a delay in the delivery of the girder, due to which a fine of Rs. 20 lakhs was imposed on the contractor for each day, resulting in a total fine of Rs. 1 crore 80 lakhs over a period of ten days.
The total length of the Carnac Bridge is 328 meters, of which 70 meters is within the railway area and the length of the access road within the municipal area is approximately 230 meters.Of this, 130 meters are in the east and 100 meters in the west. The work on the first girder of this bridge was completed in October, while the work on the second was completed in January.The administration’s goal at this time was to complete the remaining work in the next four months. With the permission of the traffic police, work was going on for this bridge 24 hours a day, so ordinary Mumbaikars want this bridge to be opened for traffic as soon as possible.
