Permission granted to remove trees for the tunnel of Goregaon Mulund link road
The ambitious Goregaon Mulund Link Road project in Mumbai is currently underway. It is an important project connecting the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai city. The work of this project has been undertaken by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The work of this project will be completed in a total of four phases. In the third phase of this project, a twin tunnel will be constructed under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali.
This Goregaon Mulund Link Road is very important from the point of view of transportation in Mumbai city. This 12.20 km long road will be completed in four phases. Therefore, the journey from east to west in Mumbai city, which used to take fifteen minutes, will now take only 25 minutes, and the problems caused by environmental pollution will also be reduced to a large extent. This will benefit most places in North Mumbai. It will also reduce the transportation time and will also eliminate the problem of traffic jams that ordinary Mumbaikars face during peak hours. Both Goregaon and Mulund areas of the city see a lot of traffic, so this connecting road will definitely benefit traffic in these areas.
This third phase tunnel is approximately 4.7 kilometers long and 45.70 meters wide. All the necessary permissions for the construction of this tunnel have now been obtained. For this tunnel, a TBM will have to be used to dig a pit at Dadasaheb Phalke film city in Goregaon. Therefore, permission has been obtained for the land required for the tunnel and the felling of trees above it.Dadasaheb Phalke Picture City is also important from a tourist point of view. Many tourists who visit Mumbai city often come to see this picture city. Therefore, the future construction of these twin road projects will definitely benefit tourists in this area.
The trees to be cut for this tunnel work are from Dadasaheb Phalke film city. The Municipal Corporation has also clarified that no trees in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park will be affected during this work.Because recently, the residents of Mumbai city had expressed strong displeasure regarding the trees that were cut down during the metro work. Therefore, it was made mandatory to obtain court permission before cutting down trees during any development work in the city. That is why, while hearing a case filed as a precaution against the felling of trees required for the construction of the Goregaon Mulund link road, the court has given the green light to this related process.
The matter was heard before the benches of Chief Justice Chandrachud and Vinod Chandran of the Mumbai Court and the next hearing will be held on August 12.Also, a copy of the relevant decision and order has not been received, so no action will be taken on this at this time. After receiving the said copy, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation will have to submit some documents before the court. The actual work will begin only after all these documents are processed. The work of this pit to be constructed for the Goregaon Mulund link road is going to be on a very large scale. It will take four months to dig the actual pit, while it will take one and a half to two years to complete the actual tunnel. Therefore, this work will take a long time. The land required for goregaon mulund link road project has been obtained from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the necessary permission for the tunnel work has also been obtained.
