Nagpur to Mumbai Travel to Become Faster

Every day, thousands of people travel from Nagpur to Mumbai. Often, commuters heading directly to South Mumbai face severe traffic congestion. Due to heavy traffic, people sometimes spend two and a half to three hours stuck in traffic jams. To address all these issues, the government has approved the construction of this new Kilometres, eight-lane road. As a result, the time required to travel from Aamne to South Mumbai will be reduced by nearly two hours, providing major relief to citizens. This will enable vehicles coming from Nagpur via the Samruddhi Expressway to directly reach South Mumbai through Aamne.

A new 18 km road in Thane will connect the Mumbai-Vadodara highway to the Thane coastal road.

Due to this proposed road, vehicles coming via the Samruddhi Expressway will no longer need to pass through Thane and Bhiwandi. The route via the Uttan–Virar Coastal Sea Link, followed by Bhayandar West and the coastal road, and then the Bandra–Versova Sea Link, and further the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, will ensure a smooth and comfortable journey. Vehicles will also be able to quickly reach Nariman Point. Since South Mumbai is one of the premium areas of the city, this new road will significantly improve traffic movement from Nagpur to Mumbai in this region.

This Kilometres, eight-lane road is likely to be constructed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), with an estimated cost of around ₹2,000 crore. The project has been conceptualized by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This road will connect the Mumbai–Vadodara Expressway with the Thane Coastal Road. Preliminary activities related to this project have already begun. The number of passengers traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai is quite high, and often they must use multiple routes from Aamne to reach South Mumbai, which results in heavy traffic. To overcome these challenges, the Maharashtra government has taken this major infrastructure decision. According to preliminary information, all work related to this project will be carried out by MSRDC.

The distance between Nagpur to Mumbai is approximately 780 to 890 kilometers. Due to the Samruddhi Expressway, this journey can now be completed comfortably within eight to nine hours. The Nagpur–Aamne–Bhiwandi travel time has already been reduced to around seven hours. However, commuters still face heavy traffic while traveling further toward South Mumbai areas such as Worli, Bandra, Andheri, and Dahisar. To eliminate these problems, the government has planned this Kilometres road. This route will allow vehicles to directly access the Uttan–Virar Coastal Sea Link and then proceed smoothly toward South Mumbai, making the entire journey easier and faster. Vehicles will also be able to reach Nariman Point directly using this route.

Recently, a massive traffic jam lasting nearly 32 hours severely affected daily life. Observing this situation, the government has become highly alert and is making efforts at multiple levels to ensure that such large-scale traffic congestion does not occur in the future. Several measures are being planned to improve traffic flow in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

With the completion of this 18-kilometer, eight-lane road, direct travel to South Mumbai will become much smoother. Citizens will no longer need to travel through Thane and Bhiwandi. Vehicles coming from the Mumbai–Vadodara Expressway will also find it easier to connect with the Samruddhi Expressway. Overall, this upcoming road will play a crucial role in resolving future traffic challenges and ensuring faster, safer, and more comfortable travel.
