The redevelopment of Sewri BDD Chawl has stalled, so the people of this area are currently pursuing the redevelopment of this building, which has been awaited for 35 years.

Redevelopment of Sewri BDD Chawl stalled due to central permission
Redevelopment work of various buildings is currently underway in Mumbai city, including the redevelopment work of Na M Joshi Naigaon and BDD Chali in Worli. These three and one such building in Sewri area are four BDD colony buildings in Mumbai city.
Sewri BDD Chawl is spread over an area of six and a half acres and has 12 buildings. Currently, 960 residents are living in these twelve buildings. Therefore, there are frequent demands from these residents for the redevelopment of this chawl. But the land of this chawl belongs to the Mumbai Port Authority, so the permission of the central government and a no objection certificate are required for redevelopment of this land, so the state government cannot redevelop this chawl. This redevelopment will take place when the land for the redevelopment of this chawl is transferred from the ownership of the central government to the state government.
The remaining three BDD chawls in Mumbai city are located in the Na Ma Joshi, Naigaon and Worli areas. When the decision was made to redevelop these chawls, Sewri BDD chawl was excluded from them. This angered the residents of the building and they repeatedly followed up with the central and state governments. Therefore, the state government should also strongly demand this from the center.
Citizens of Sewri area also launched a public movement for the redevelopment of this chawl and also went to Delhi and met Union Ministers. This demand was also conveyed to the Mumbai Port Authority as well as the Central and State Governments, but the local residents of this area did not receive much response.Local residents of the area are currently unhappy as the redevelopment of this building has not progressed despite all efforts.Residents of this local area say that there is no political will for the development of Sewri BDD Chawl and they also said that they will launch a strong agitation for the redevelopment of this chawl.Residents of this area also said that they will meet the leaders of all parties and provide information about this entire matter.
Sewri BDD Chawl is actually very old. The construction of these 12 buildings on this six and a half acre land was completed around 1992, so the buildings in this area are around 30 to 35 years old.Due to this, these buildings are in a dilapidated condition. During the monsoon, water also seeps into these buildings and there is also water in the basement, causing various problems for the citizens. The local residents of this sewri bdd chawl are suffering from this problem, so they have a modest demand that this redevelopment be completed as soon as possible.
The local people have also sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, for the redevelopment of this chawl. This time, these citizens have also demanded that the central and state governments pay attention to the redevelopment of this chawl.Ajay Chaudhary, the local MLA from this area, has also expressed his position in this regard. He has also said that the redevelopment of this chawl should be done as soon as possible. The government considers the issue of pigeon feeding to be bigger than the residents. The government is calling a meeting within 12 hours tomorrow to discuss the issue of pigeon feeding. But despite repeated follow-ups, the government is not taking any steps for the redevelopment of this chawl, local residents and public representatives told the people this time.
