The Mogra Udanchan Kendra was to be built to relieve rainwater in the western suburbs and ensure proper drainage of that rainwater But since this center is now coming on the Versova-Dahisar sea route, there has been some hindrance in this.

Mogra udanchan center will be delayed due to Versova-Dahisar coastal road
In a situation where Mumbai receives a large amount of rainfall every year, rainwater harvesting centers are currently in place in the city to ensure proper drainage of this rainwater. In fact, there is no natural system in the city to drain rainwater and water accumulated due to heavy rainfall, so the only solution left is to drain this water out of the city artificially. That is why these rainwater harvesting centers are used extensively for this purpose. Therefore, a campaign was undertaken to set up eight rainwater harvesting centers in Mumbai city, accepting the report of Brimstrowad and Chitale Committee.Of these, 6 centers have been built and are operational.
Construction of six rainwater harvesting centers in the city completed
Out of the eight rainwater harvesting centers, Haji Ali, Irla, Lovegrove, Britannia, Ghazdarbandh, Cleveland etc. are currently ready and operational, but out of these eight, Mogra Udanchan Center in Andheri is stalled. It was decided to build this drainage center to drain rainwater from various areas of Mumbai city, that is, four areas.A contract worth Rs 2090 crore was also floated for setting up relevant lifting centers to drain rainwater in four areas from Andheri, Jogeshwari, Malpadongri to Versova. But due to the delay in this matter at that time, it now appears that the cost of this proposed project will also increase.
The Jogeshwari Andheri area of the city is densely populated, so if water accumulates in this area during the monsoon, it causes a lot of trouble to the people of this area. Also, there is a lot of traffic in this area, so if this purification center gets approval at the earliest, then these problems arising during the monsoon will definitely be reduced.
The proposal for the proposed construction of this Udanchan Center was also submitted five years ago, but the land acquisition for it was stalled. The matter had gone to court as two people had claimed ownership of the proposed site. Since the matter was sub judice, no hearing was held on the proposal. As a result, the work of this udanchan center was stalled.
However, last year in September 2024, the court lifted this stay and ordered the Municipal Corporation to deposit Rs 33 crore for this. Accordingly, the Municipal Corporation also deposited Rs 33 crore. But now a new problem seems to have arisen for this proposed Mogra Udanchan Center. This was delayed to some extent due to the judicial process, which has subsequently led to the current disruption caused by the Versova-Dahisar coastal road. The proposed Mogra center is coming in the way of the Versova-Dahisar coastal route, hence instructions have been given at this time to re-plan and prepare a design for this center. Also, the proposed launch center will have to be shifted to the west due to this, and Mumbai Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar also ordered that the construction work related to the center will begin after the monsoon. The current administration is appealing to complete this project as soon as possible.
The proposed center was planned to be built in the current stream. Due to the arrival of this proposed center, orders have been given to shift the current one slightly to the west. Therefore, the project was already stalled, and due to such problems, the planning and design of these features will have to be done again.
